If you’re currently looking for work you’ll understand why there’s so many recruitment companies out there, it’s time consuming searching for vacancies, filling in applications, putting together references and cover letters which can feel overwhelming, so some people spend hundreds or even thousands of pounds on a CV Writer to make the process a little less painful however just how valuable is this service if no one calls you at the end of it?

Here’s 3 reasons why you should never use a CV Writer

Who are they writing it for?

In this job market it’s important to stand out, get noticed above your competition however CV Writers use templates which are all formatted the same way, they use fancy fonts and big words to make their service appear worth while to you. Using words that you wouldn’t ordinarily use will have an impact on how you’re viewed by the reader so why would you want to pretend you’re someone you’re not? Ideally you should be tailoring your CV to the job itself. An HR or recruitment team has to quickly assess your suitability for the vacancy, skimming your details for keywords. A CV Writer is so out of the loop when it comes to recruitment how would they ever know what to include in your CV?

Lack of industry knowledge

There is no guarantee that the individual tasked with constructing your CV is any better than you are and there’s little chance that they’ll be able to articulate your experience and detailed work life in the same way you can. A CV is your chance to show off your knowledge which a CV Writer wouldn’t be able to do

Future tweaks

As you progress through your career you’re going to want to make tweaks to your CV so if you don’t know how or why it was designed that way then you will have to keep going back to the CV Writer, it makes far more sense to learn how to do it yourself. In order to avoid costly updates we educate job seekers to understand what information you should detail, how it should be laid out to make sure you’re being seen, how to make sure you’re CV is making it into the ATS system and if the database can translate your documents into searchable text so that you come up in recruiters searches.

Professional CV writing services may not be as effective as they suggest, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t approach the job search process without help.
