How to create a great CV

Job Seekers who can’t land the job they want are in search of this ever elusive “CV format” or “Template” that get’s them their dream job. Well i’m here to tell you there are NO shortcuts. If you want a quick fix you can throw as much money at it as you like, you won’t get that job because when it gets to interview stage you’re not prepared. You assume that the CV from a CV Writer you’ve paid for is going to win you the job… oh how naive you are!

I must have seen millions of CVs in my lifetime and there’s only ONE formula that works, YOU! Let me show you the difference between what you’re probably doing right now and what you could be doing.

I’ve worked with 1,000s of clients but this is one of my friend’s, before and after, working with me. For those of you who have followed me for years you’ll know I don’t advocate strings of adjectives to get your point across however in this case, it totally worked.

Before reading what comes after this you need to know that my friend is in Marketing and so therefore because of her industry she needs to be a “marketeer”

Before…

Highly motivated, proactive and adaptable with profound communication and interpersonal skills, I am able to relate effectively, maintaining relationships at all levels. I work well under pressure and have developed strong organisational and management skills with excellent attention to detail.  Committed, resilient and with a positive attitude, I am continuously keen to learn new skills and face new challenges.

This is the CV Summary and beginning of her work experience

After……

Why did it work so well? Originality

If you want to stand out, you have to be you and be unique. No one ever remembers the person who’s CV reads the same as anyone else’s.  Since working with my friend she receives comments from recruiters and HR how much they like her CV. She gets interviews based on her skills, delivery and creativity.  Why? Because her CV reads from a position of strength, not subservience.

No one will be able to copy this because it won’t be relevant to you, your background, situation, the job you are applying to or your background.

So, when you’re looking for your “quick fix” to get the job YOU want you’ll see why there’s no magic pill or magic format. If YOU want to be picked you have to appeal to your specific audience.

Stand out, stand up, be brave, be original and have faith that you have what it takes. Everyone’s CV should read entirely differently and you should look at yourself as your own “business of one”. Create and build your own personal brand that’s unique to you.
